OPEN CALL 2026

We are in the process of planning our 2026 festival and welcome submissions of interest and ideas. Here are some things to bear in mind when making a submission which may help in terms of assessment and consideration.

Please have a look at our 2025 programme* in advance of submission to get an idea of the festival. Consider what was in it which you could build upon or what was missing which could help improve our offering - e.g. a recipient of the 2025 Open Call pointed out we had omitted theatre from our programme in 2024.

Try to have a venue/location/space in mind for what you propose, while this is not essential it is helpful in terms of realistically programming it.

Attempt to have an outline budget* in mind also. Please consider that we are a community festival so large-scale ambitious ideas may not be best suited to us but if they spark originality and interest, we can consider how best to realise them. We endeavour to make most of our events free, or allow access for a minimal charge.

We are particularly keen on ideas which integrate the community and reflect the people who live here and the rich heritage of the area.

Have you a work-in-development relating to the Liberties or a site-specific idea?

Areas such as Arts & Disability, Arts & Young People, Arts & Older People, and Arts & Minority Groups and sustainability are of particular interest to us.

*budget areas to consider include: performer fees, venue and/or equipment rental, materials, transport, workshops, admin…

In terms of submission, please send your idea in no more than 400 words (ideally in word doc or pdf format), along with a brief biography and initial budget where applicable. Please use the words: LIBERTIES FESTIVAL OPEN CALL 2026 in your subject line and send to michael@thelibertiesfestival.com If the idea has reference points from elsewhere, we welcome you including these too. Please keep an eye on the size of any files attached, please - links are preferable.

A Q&A concerning the Open Call will happen on the week of January 19th. This will either be in person or online, depending on the level of interest. To register for this, please mail director michael@thelibertiesfestival.com with INFO CLINIC  in the subject line and further details will be sent on the week of January 11th.

If you struggle with written applications, please let us know so we can facilitate a chat.

All submissions will be acknowledged. We will create an initial short list by the end of February, some may need more lead in time for exploration or require further assessment. Our programme will not be finalised until late Spring 2026.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 6th February 2026

  • We programmed three events from the Open Call process in 2025. These were: (1) All My Friends are in Australia, a debut play by an emerging theatre collective which took place upstairs in Arthur’s Bar; (2) A Matter of Time: Vol. 2, an exhibition and workshops in Tailor’s Hall by locally based photographer, printmaker and sound artist (3) A Soundwalk & workshop which culminated in a Sounds of the Liberties performance in Saint Catherine’s Church.
